Beachart—A Gathering House on the Pacific Coast

RECENTLY REDUCED BY $30,000!

This spacious mid-century architectural gem has been owned, improved, and loved by the same extended family group for thirty years. Purchased from the original owners, it occupies two beachfront lots in the Surfside development just north of Ocean Park on Washington’s Long Beach Peninsula. Beachart was the first house built in Surfside.

Beachart’s unobstructed vista sweeps across beach grass-covered dunes which teem with deer and pheasant and offer views of migrating birds of many types, along with the bald eagles which enjoy the oceanfront perch built just for them.  A well-worn private path to the broad, sandy beach of the twenty-six mile peninsula assures privacy and tranquility.

The large patio on the beach side of Beachart is great for sunning, reading, bird-watching, picnics and enjoying the sunset. The large covered porch on the east is perfect for taking advantage of the available local seafood and enjoying year-round oyster, clam, and crab feeds.

Beachart’s unusual interior is designed around a central hexagon, anchored on the ocean side with a massive custom-built Tennessee marble fireplace, hardwood floors, vaulted ceiling, large living room and a dining table (seating twelve) built by the owners from repurposed old-growth fir bleachers from Portland's Grant High School.  The large east-facing kitchen features two ovens, laundry facilities and a half bath.

Adjoining the great room, and accessible through a pair of French doors is a solarium used for games, art, and puzzles, and for enjoying the views of the dunes.  The sunroom has an indoor garden with ever blooming geraniums.

The bedroom wing features two large bedrooms sharing a full hallway bath, as well as a master suite with its own full bath, large closets, built-in storage cabinet and a pair of sinks.

South of the kitchen, with entries both east and west to the outside, is a TV/family room with a wood burning stove. A bonus room accommodating a pair of twin beds adjoins the TV/family room.  .

A six-bunk room in the lower-level with daylight basement entry from the outside, and a stairway access from the central hallway, has its own full bath. Each bunk has its own reading light and privacy curtain.

A two-car garage on the lower level provides excellent storage.

Equally accessible from Portland and Seattle, the Long Beach Peninsula is bounded on the west by the Pacific Ocean and on the east by Willapa Bay, the last industrially unpolluted estuary in North America and home to oyster farming and research.  Situated within the Bay and accessible only by small boat is the largest estuarine island on the Pacific Coast, Long Island.  Within Long Island’s almost 5,500 acres is a 270 acre cathedral of old growth forest, featuring 900-year old cedars.

The several small towns on the Long Beach Peninsula have a sweet, old-fashioned feel but offer casual and fine-dining restaurants, large grocery stores, antiques, museums, bakeries, boutiques,  tourist attractions such a go-karts, kiddy rides, and a gaming arcade. One huge attraction for our family has been the organic U-pick blueberry farm with its honor pay system.

Golf is a short walk from the house, while the Leadbetter Point Wildlife Refuge a short bike ride or drive away.  The historic town of Oysterville on Willapa Bay is a secluded step back in time with its Victorian houses, historic church and school house. Chief  Nachotta of the Chinook Tribe, the indigenous people of the area, is buried in the Oysterville Cemetery.

The Long Beach Peninsula hosts many annual events, such as: its amazing 4th of July fireworks extravaganza running along the full length of the beach; the Garlic Festival; the International Kite Festival; the End of the Road Rod Run (a weekend of 1000 restored vintage cars cruising the Peninsula); the Cranberrian Festival; art walk weekends; the Water Music Festival; and the Rodeo.

In addition to providing access to all the Peninsula’s activities, Beachart’s privacy, abundant space and tranquil atmosphere have been valued by couples, family groups, art clubs, weddings parties, spiritual retreats,  and large parties of friends.

The roof is new, the paint is fresh inside and out, and the central vacuum recently had the motor replaced.  Everything at Beachart is in good working order waiting for the lucky buyer of this wonderful property.
