The Neighborhood
Best known for its close proximity to Northstar Nature Preserve, the Roaring Fork River, and rare and unusual views of Aspen Mountain - from the eastern most expert terrain of Walsh’s and Kristi’s, to the Trainor Ridge and Shadow Mountain on the west - Aspen’s east side is especially attractive to recreationalists and those looking for a private enclave with a large home and substantial acreage. Residents in this neighborhood enjoy both the quietude of the natural surroundings and the easy access - by car, bike or foot - to Aspen’s downtown core. and access to all of the town’s sophisticated shopping, restaurants and cultural offerings. Hikers, bikers, skiers and nature lovers are drawn to the area for biking and walking, immersing themselves in the unique river environment and open space that exists just beyond the city limits at Northstar. Others enjoy the proximity of Independence Pass, open for exploration or travel to points east for six months of the year.

In winter, alpine skiers have free reign at all four ski mountains, with free and easy transportation available to each mountain from downtown, while nordic skiers and snowshoers can enjoy miles of freshly groomed trails. In summer, mountain bikers take to the trails on Smuggler Mountain, while road bikers point their wheels up the adjoining valleys, including Independence Pass, Castle Creek and Maroon Creek. Hikers flock to the tops of surrounding peaks to take in the abundant wildflower displays and panoramic views. Fly fishing aficionados find easy access to the Roaring Fork River, offering some of the world’s best fishing. Kids rejoice in the endless opportunities to explore Aspen by foot, by ski, and by bike.
